About Dalton
Dalton valette
Historian, Home Rule Commissioner, President Guy, Writer
Dalton Valette is a Colorado native, being raised in Superior when the town was just beginning to emerge from its coal-mining and agriculture days. He was an early political advocate—door knocking for the likes of John Kerry, Barack Obama, Jared Polis, and Dianne Primavera. Dalton was awarded the American Legion School Award for courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship, and service. He championed LGBTQ+ rights in his high school and was the Opinions Editor at his school newspaper.
He went on to secure his BA in Political Science from Drew University. While at Drew he worked for Phil Murphy’s gubernatorial race as a Director of Communications, worked at C-SPAN and the United Nations, served as the President of his College Democrats, and was the News Editor for The Acorn. He graduated with honors, was his class commencement speaker, and published his thesis on alt-right political ideology and its history in the LGBTQ+ community.
Dalton would then secure his Master of Studies in Law degree with a focus on Ethics and Compliance from the University of Colorado Law School. He would also launch his first run for local office as a candidate for Superior Board of Trustees. He worked for Phil Weiser’s re-election campaign and has worked in fields related to data privacy, healthcare, advertising, and cannabis focusing on legal compliance and regulatory knowledge. His writings have appeared in multiple outlets internationally including Salon, The Colorado Sun, The Daily Camera, Hunter’s Path, and African Hunting Gazette.
Most recently, he was awarded the 2024 Josie Heath Award for Outstanding Young Democrat by the Boulder County Democratic Party. When he is not working, serving in his elected capacity as a Home Rule Commissioner, or volunteering with the Superior Historical Commission, Dalton can be found reading, writing, watching the latest movie (or rewatching The Lord of the Rings), or enjoying the outdoors.
